How We Support Your Journey
Professional Referrals
Some children and families may benefit from additional one-on-one support. When needed, we help connect families with licensed therapists and other trusted professionals in the community who specialize in working with children and teens.
What Happens When You Reach Out
Reaching out for support can feel like a big step, and we want families to feel comfortable and welcomed from the start. When you contact Life After Grief, we’ll take time to listen and learn about your child and your family’s needs.
We’ll talk about your child’s age, their experience with loss, and help determine which support group may be the best fit. Our goal is to make the process simple, compassionate, and supportive for every family who connects with us.
All conversations are handled with care and respect for your family's privacy.
Support Groups for Healing Together
Our peer support groups are organized by age, so children and teens can connect with others who understand the experience of loss.
Need Additional Support?
While Life After Grief focuses on peer support groups, we understand that some families benefit from one-on-one sessions. We help connect you with trusted licensed therapists in your area. If you are unsure what kind of support is best for your family, please reach out to us and we will guide you through the next steps.
Questions You Might Have
How do I explain death to a child?
We recommend using simple, honest, and age-appropriate language. Avoid phrases like 'went to sleep' and instead use gentle but clear words to help children understand what has happened while still providing comfort and reassurance.
What does a peer support session look like?
Sessions involve storytelling, creative art activities, and guided conversations. Children and teens meet in age-appropriate peer groups led by trained facilitators, creating a safe space where they can share , listen, and process their grief.
Is there a fee for participating in programs?
Our programs are offered free of charge. Donations are appreciated and help us continue providing support to families in our community, but no child or family will ever be turned away due to inability to give.
What if my child is hesitant to speak?
That is completely okay. Silence can be a natural part of healing. There is never pressure to share; and many children find comfort simply being around peers who understand what they are going through.
Who can participate in the groups?
Our programs are designed for children and teens who have experienced the loss of a parent, sibling, family member, or another important person in their life.
What if my child hasn’t experienced the death of someone, can they still participate?
Our current groups are specifically designed for children and teens who are grieving the death of someone important in their life. We also recognize that children experience grief from other significant life losses, such as divorce, incarceration, or foster care. As we grow, we plan to offer separate groups designed specifically for those experiences. If you’re looking for support now, please reach out.
